This week Crafty Hangouts hosted another fun series of live video tutorials, this time on a thrift shop theme! In case you missed it earlier this week, I recycled a wool sweater into a sleeve for my phone. You can make these for just about any device, including an iPad, a Kindle, or even a notebook or sketch pad! Watch the video to see how I did it:
Hi there! Love this concept and appreciate the tutorial. Can you tell me how you got the rounded top of the flap for this? Did you felt the sweater first then trim it to shape – vice versa? Or did you use a shaped part of the sweater?
Hi Jennifer, and thanks!
You’ll always want to felt your sweater first and then cut – it may unravel if you cut before felting, and the process of felting is a tad bit unpredictable so you never really know exactly how much it’s going to shrink. The entire thing is one piece that was cut out of the body portion of the sweater. At around 3:50 in the video I explain how I cut it. Thanks for stopping by!
