For my project, I dug into my stash, because last year I bought a TON of great Halloween stuff at the dollar store and barely scratched the surface of using it. When I came across a whole pile of Halloween-themed paper straws, I knew I wanted to do a jewelry project. After scraping together a few other things I had on hand, these paper straw necklaces were born!
Watch this quick Vine video to see how I made them. There are also a supply list and some written directions after the video for you!
- Paper straws
- Beads
- Baker’s twine
- Scissors
- Needle
Directions:
- Cut a paper straw into five sections: two short pieces, two medium pieces, and one long piece.
- Cut a piece of baker’s twine that is long enough to fit over your head, plus a couple of extra inches.
- Using a needle and thread, string a bead onto the baker’s twine. Then push the needle through one of the short pieces of straw about 1/8 of an inch from the end. Continue alternating between beads and pieces of straw until all five straw pieces are added. They should be added in this order: short, medium, long, medium, short.
- Tie an overhand knot to hold the two ends of the twine together and trim if needed. Slip it over your head and you are ready for the Halloween party!
You could also do multiple groupings of straws on a longer length of twine to make a fun garland!
So cute Rhonda!!
